A 2024 Ford F-150 struck a 44-year-old woman inside Word of Grace Fellowship in Raytown at about 10:45 a.m. Sunday, as worship was wrapping up. The truck backed through the church’s front foyer at 11950 E. State Route 350 while the service was being livestreamed, according to The Kansas City Star.
A Missouri Highway Patrol incident report cited by the Kansas City Star identifies the driver as an 89-year-old man. The woman was taken to an emergency room, where she underwent surgery and was treated for internal bleeding, the newspaper reported. Senior pastor Scott Sundin told the paper that the driver and a passenger, both longtime church members, were not injured.
Sundin told the paper that the driver later said he “couldn’t find the brake.” Word of Grace Fellowship’s statement described the incident as a driver losing control and backing into the church, “knocking in the front wall and doors,” according to The Kansas City Star.
Congregation Watched Crash Unfold on Livestream
The livestream showed the congregation reacting as the truck entered the foyer; the broadcast ended shortly afterward, the Kansas City Star reported. The church posted about the crash less than 30 minutes after it happened. In a later post, it asked followers to pray for the woman’s recovery and for the emotional well-being of the truck’s occupants.
Sundin told the paper the truck stopped before it could reach about 100 people inside the church. He also said the vehicle narrowly missed a support column near the entrance, limiting structural damage.
What Comes Next for the Raytown Congregation
The woman’s condition after surgery and treatment for internal bleeding, any plans for repairs to the damaged entryway, and whether a citation or further investigation followed were not reported in the account.
