A 9-year-old child riding a bicycle was struck by a vehicle Sunday afternoon in northwest Oklahoma City, and officials said the child suffered no major injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The crash happened just after 1:45 p.m. in the 6000 block of Northwest 158th Street.
Oklahoma City police are investigating the collision, which occurred in an area north of Northwest 150th Street and west of North MacArthur Boulevard, according to KOCO. Officials said the child suffered no major injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Where the Crash Happened
The stretch of Northwest 158th Street where the collision occurred sits within Oklahoma City limits, even though homes in that part of town carry Edmond mailing addresses, the station's report notes. The city boundary and mailing-address designations differ in this location.
Police have not released information about who was driving the vehicle involved or whether the driver remained at the scene. The investigation remained active as of Sunday afternoon, and officials indicated additional details could follow as the case develops.
Not the First Case Involving a Child on a Bike
This isn't the first time a child on a bicycle has been hit by a vehicle in northwest Oklahoma City in recent months. In March, police said a 9-year-old struck by a vehicle in the same part of the city suffered minor injuries, was released from a local hospital, and the driver in that case returned to the scene, according to a separate report from KOCO. In April, a child was also sent to the hospital after being hit by a vehicle near Northwest 122nd Street and Thorn Ridge Road, as reported by KFOR.
Not every case has ended with survivable injuries. A 12-year-old boy was killed after being hit by two vehicles in southwest Oklahoma City near Southwest 134th Street and Blackwelder Avenue, according to News 9.
Sunday's crash remains under investigation, and officials said the child suffered no major injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Police have not said whether the driver faced any citations or whether impairment played any role in the collision.
