Al & Ernie's Bakery Cafe, the Main Street spot that has been drawing thousands of weekly customers since 2024, is opening a second location in Battle Ground Village. The new cafe, called Al & Ernie's in the Village, is expected to open in early 2027 in a 940-square-foot space at 802 S.E. 14th Place.
A Smaller Outpost With a Familiar Name
The new space, about one-third the size of the Main Street original, will offer a limited selection of baked goods, espresso, coffee and tea rather than the flagship's full menu, according to The Reflector. The Main Street location will keep serving its full breakfast and lunch menus, per the Vancouver Business Journal. As WhatNow reports, the Village cafe is designed to have the same look and feel as the original while functioning as a coffee shop for the Village's residents, employers and visitors.
The business announced the expansion on September 30, and remodeling of the space is planned to start in late 2026 ahead of the targeted early 2027 opening, the same report notes. Al & Ernie's in the Village will take over a space previously occupied by Blue Castle Coffee, which vacated the address in August after choosing not to renew its lease, according to the same account.
From Grocery Store Roots to a Second Storefront
The original Al & Ernie's opened in 2024 at 802 E. Main St., inside a building that once housed Al & Ernie's Foodliner, a longtime Battle Ground grocery store, per WhatNow's reporting. The bakery cafe took its name to honor that history. Its menu includes bagels, cornetto pastries, scones, cookies, and sourdough and focaccia breads, along with biscuits and gravy, quiche, avocado toast and daily lunch specials, and the shop is open Tuesday through Saturday.
That original location draws an estimated 5,000 to 6,000 customers per week, a figure that has held steady since it opened, according to the Vancouver Business Journal. The cafe has also sold nearly 40,000 of its signature cinnamon rolls so far in 2026, the same outlet reports.
Who's Behind the Expansion
Al & Ernie's Bakery Cafe is run by the Battle Ground Hospitality Collective, which is owned by brothers Camden and Mac Spiller, according to The Reflector. The collective also operates the Battle Ground Farmer's Market and Tuke's Public House & Garden. Al & Ernie's in the Village is expected to become the collective's fourth local hospitality business, according to Clark County Today.
The new Village cafe will join the leased storefront at 802 S.E. 14th Place as the collective's latest bet on Battle Ground's growing commercial footprint, according to The Columbian. Further details on the new location's hours, staffing and finalized menu had not been released as of the announcement.
