Austin travelers dreaming of glaciers and grizzly country will soon be able to skip the layovers. Alaska Airlines has announced new seasonal nonstop flights between Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and Anchorage, with Saturday-only service scheduled to begin June 12, 2027, and run through August 7, 2027.
The airline says it will be the first carrier to operate nonstop flights between the two cities, according to KXAN. As KVUE reports, the flights will use Boeing 737 aircraft, departing Austin-Bergstrom at 5:40 p.m. and touching down at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport at 10 p.m. local time. Return flights leave Anchorage at 8 p.m. and land back in Austin at 6 a.m. the following morning.
A First for Both Airports
Austin-Bergstrom is calling the route a milestone of its own. Per Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, the service marks “a brand-new domestic destination, and a first-ever” for AUS. The airport also notes that Alaska Airlines offers the first-ever nonstop connection between Austin and Anchorage.
AUS Chief Executive Officer Ghizlane Badawi framed the route around what Alaska has to offer visitors, according to KVUE, saying Anchorage serves as a gateway to the Kenai Peninsula, the state's parks, fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing and Denali. Alaska Airlines Regional Vice President Marilyn Romano added that the carrier is “building on its legacy and giving guests more ways to explore,” per the same KVUE report.
Part of a Bigger Alaska Push
The Austin route is one piece of what Alaska Airlines calls its largest-ever nonstop schedule out of the state. The carrier is also adding new seasonal nonstop service from Anchorage to Nashville and Dallas-Fort Worth in 2027, according to Alaska Airlines, which said the combined routes will create the largest nonstop schedule from Alaska in the company's history. The announcement came the same day Alaska revealed a new nonstop flight connecting Anchorage with Tokyo Narita. Romano told Alaska Public Media that the Tokyo flight “is part of our largest ever nonstop schedule from Anchorage that also includes new seasonal service starting this summer to Austin, Texas, Nashville, Tennessee, and Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas.”
Where Alaska Stands at AUS
Alaska Airlines currently ranks as the fifth-largest carrier at Austin-Bergstrom by passenger traffic, accounting for about 3% of all passengers so far this year, the KXAN report notes. The airline's footprint at the airport actually shrank recently: Alaska carried 55,471 passengers through AUS in August 2026, down 19.6% from the same month in 2025, even as the airport's overall passenger traffic grew 1.79% year over year to 1,804,578 arriving and departing travelers that month.
Austin's airport is drawing plenty of new competition for Alaska's attention, too. Delta Air Lines and Southwest Airlines have collectively announced 11 other new nonstop routes from AUS set to begin next year, the KXAN report states.
Booking the New Route
Alaska Airlines tickets are on sale at alaskaair.com and hawaiianairlines.com, according to KVUE. A sample search on the airline's booking page for a November 2026 departure and return showed fares ranging from $330 to $538, though Alaska Airlines cautions on its site that displayed prices have been available within the past 24 hours and may not be available at the time of booking.
