A 47-year-old Albuquerque man will spend the next 19 years in the New Mexico Department of Corrections after a jury found him guilty of repeatedly sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl and then threatening her to keep quiet about it. Steven Dimas was sentenced on Thursday following his conviction on three counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor under age 13 and one count of intimidation of a witness.
According to KRQE, the judge handed down the 19-year sentence for abusing the child and intimidating her into silence. The girl knew Dimas, the outlet reported, though the exact nature of their relationship was not detailed. After the abuse, Dimas threatened the child and told her not to tell anyone about what happened, according to the same report.
Jury Reached Verdict in June
A jury convicted Dimas in June of the three counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor and the single count of witness intimidation. Thursday's sentence was 19 years.
Trial Set for Five Days
A separate Second Judicial District Court calendar dated May 18, 2026 listed a jury trial for Dimas, again noting he remained in custody, with the proceeding scheduled to last five days. That trial led to the June conviction and, on Thursday, the 19-year sentence.
