A traffic stop for outstanding warrants has led to an arrest in a more than two-year-old Atlanta murder case. Police say 21-year-old Dorian Glover is now charged with murder and aggravated assault in connection with a fatal shooting on the 3700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive NW.
Atlanta police said they’ve arrested a suspect in a 2023 murder, according to Atlanta News First. Officers took Glover into custody during a traffic stop after discovering outstanding warrants tied to the deadly shooting, per the outlet’s report.
The underlying case dates back to the evening of June 13, 2023, when officers responded to a report of a person shot shortly after 9:20 p.m. on the 3700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive NW. There, they found a man who had been shot multiple times. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the station’s report states.
Victim’s Identity Still Unknown
More than two years after the shooting, the man’s name has still not been made public. Atlanta News First said it is working to learn the victim’s identity and plans to provide updates as the case develops.
No additional details on Glover’s exact arrest date, any plea, or a possible bond hearing were included in the station’s report.
A Year of Mixed Crime Trends in Atlanta
The arrest comes against the backdrop of a broader shift in Atlanta’s violent crime numbers. The Atlanta Police Department reported 135 homicides in 2023, down from 171 the year before, according to the Atlanta Police Department. The department also reported an 18% decline in shooting incidents and a 23% decrease in shooting victims that year, alongside the confiscation of 3,197 firearms and 73 narcotics warrants that led to 100 arrests.
Those figures were presented by Mayor Andre Dickens and Police Chief Darin Schierbaum at a press conference, as reported by Axios. Aggravated assaults dropped 16% that year, Axios noted, even as vehicle thefts jumped 61% and shoplifting incidents rose 22% — a reminder that even in a year of declining violent crime, property crime trends moved sharply in the other direction.
What Comes Next
It remains unclear whether Glover has entered a plea or what the next court steps will be in the case. Atlanta News First has said it will continue following the investigation and provide updates on the case as new information becomes available.
