A 29-year-old Bakersfield man is dead after his Mercedes-Benz sedan blew through a stop sign and slammed into the trailer of a semi-truck early Friday morning at the intersection of Bear Mountain Boulevard and Old River Road. The driver, identified as Angad Singh, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the truck driver walked away unharmed.

According to the California Highway Patrol, officers were called to the intersection at around 3:07 a.m. after reports of a two-vehicle crash. The Kern County Coroner's Office identified the man as Angad Singh of Bakersfield, and CHP says its preliminary investigation found Singh was driving a 2025 Mercedes-Benz sedan northbound on Old River Road, south of Bear Mountain Boulevard, at the time of the crash.

Investigators say the intersection has stop signs controlling traffic in every direction. A 40-year-old Bakersfield man driving a 2018 Freightliner pulling a single trailer had come to a stop at the Old River Road sign and was heading westbound on Bear Mountain Boulevard when, for reasons CHP says remain under investigation, Singh's Mercedes continued north through the intersection and into the path of the truck's trailer.

Severe Injuries, Instant Death at the Scene

The impact left Singh with severe injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP reported. The Freightliner driver was not hurt in the collision. A separate log from chpbigrig.com describing the dispatch noted the collision involved a red big rig hauling a trash trailer and a silver four-door sedan, a detail that matches the account of the crash site.

CHP has not said whether Singh's speed played a role in the crash, and the agency has not determined why he continued into the intersection despite the posted stop sign. Investigators also say it remains unknown whether alcohol or drugs were a contributing factor, a question that has not yet been resolved.

Another Fatal Semi Crash on the Same Stretch

This is not the first deadly crash involving a semi-truck on Bear Mountain Boulevard this year. In January, 21-year-old Bakersfield resident Nathaniel Xzavier Onsurez died at the scene after his vehicle collided with a semi-truck at Bear Mountain Boulevard and Wible Road, according to bakersfield.com.

CHP is asking anyone with information about the crash that killed Singh to call the CHP Bakersfield Area Office at (661) 396-6600. The circumstances behind why Singh's vehicle entered the intersection, along with whether impairment played any role, remain open questions as the investigation continues.
