A 16-year-old boy is facing arrest after Baltimore Police say he carjacked a food delivery driver at gunpoint on Cedarcroft Road earlier this month, stealing the man's wallet, phone and car keys before speeding off in the victim's own vehicle. The teen was taken into custody two weeks later, on Thursday, more than four miles away in downtown Baltimore.
A Delivery Gone Wrong
According to Baltimore Police
, officers were called to the 1300 block of Cedarcroft Road at approximately 11:38 p.m. on October 8 for a reported commercial armed robbery and carjacking. The victim told officers that an unidentified male approached while the victim was in the middle of making a food delivery, then forced the victim to hand over a wallet, phone and vehicle keys. Police said the suspect displayed a black handgun during the confrontation before fleeing the scene in the victim's own car.
The case sat open for two weeks until Thursday, when, per the same police account, Warrant Apprehension Task Force detectives arrested a 16-year-old male suspect in the 300 block of Gay Street. The teen was then transported to a Central Booking intake facility for processing, police said.
Conflicting Accounts of the Case
Not every outlet is describing the same incident the same way. While Baltimore Police tied the arrest to the Cedarcroft Road robbery, Fox Baltimore reported that two juveniles, ages 15 and 16, were arrested in connection with an armed carjacking in northeast Baltimore, describing the location as East Northern Parkway, where juvenile males allegedly confronted a man, carjacked him at gunpoint and fled. Fox Baltimore published its report March 1, 2024, about a carjacking that happened Thursday, February 29, 2024; the Cedarcroft Road carjacking occurred October 8, 2026. These were separate incidents.
Fox Baltimore's report drew a comparison to an earlier Baltimore County case, noting that the suspects in that incident were also two boys, ages 15 and 16, accused of attacking and carjacking a 72-year-old woman. That comparison case has not been established as connected to the Cedarcroft Road robbery.
Part of a Troubling Pattern
Baltimore-area juvenile carjackings have drawn repeated police and media attention this year. CBS Baltimore reported that one such incident came amid a string of deadly crashes this summer involving children accused of stealing vehicles. In a separate case the station covered, three 14-year-old boys were taken into custody after police stopped a vehicle connected to a carjacking in West Baltimore; officers recovered a loaded handgun from that vehicle, and all three boys were taken to juvenile booking for processing.
What the Law Says About Juvenile Carjacking
Maryland law carves out an exception for how some young carjacking suspects are handled by the courts. According to a legislative note from the Maryland General Assembly, Department of Legislative Services, juvenile court does not have jurisdiction over children at least 16 years old who are alleged to have committed specified violent crimes, including carjacking or armed carjacking. The excerpt available does not offer a complete picture of how that jurisdictional rule would apply in this case, and no charges, court dispositions or custody status for the arrested teen have been made public.
