An 18-year-old man showed up at a Baltimore hospital with a gunshot wound Thursday night after being shot in the 5100 block of Park Heights Avenue, and police say the wound appeared non-life-threatening. No arrests have been made, and detectives have not released a suspect description or said what led to the shooting.
According to Shore News Network, Baltimore police received a report at 8:39 p.m. on Oct. 1 that a walk-in shooting victim had arrived at a city hospital. Officers responding to the hospital learned the man had been shot elsewhere, and investigators subsequently located the crime scene in the 5100 block of Park Heights Avenue, determining that is where the shooting occurred.
Northern District detectives are now handling the investigation, the outlet reports, and police have not released information about whether the victim knew the person who shot him. The case remains open, with no suspect in custody as of the latest information available.
What Detectives Are Asking the Public
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Northern District detectives at 410-396-2455. Tipsters who prefer to remain anonymous can instead reach Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.
The 5100 block of Park Heights Avenue has seen violence before. In September 2024, Northern District officers responded to a reported shooting in that same stretch of road, according to a Baltimore Police Department advisory. That incident left a 37-year-old man dead, while a 31-year-old man and an unidentified man also showed up at local hospitals seeking treatment — and the unidentified man later died as well. Homicide detectives took over that investigation, the department said at the time.
A Fatal Shooting Just Blocks Away Earlier This Year
Just a few blocks north, in the 4900 block of Park Heights Avenue, a shooting in April left another victim dead. Baltimore Police said patrol officers responded around 8:50 p.m. on April 12 to a report of a shooting there, and a preliminary investigation found the victim had actually been shot in the 4900 block of Palmer Road before running to Park Heights Avenue, where officers found him. He was taken to a hospital in stable condition, but the department's own account did not hold — the man died early the next morning, according to The Baltimore Sun. That death marked the city's 32nd homicide of 2026 at the time, compared with 35 recorded over the same span in 2025, the paper reported.
Citywide Shootings Trending Down, But Park Heights Still Sees Violence
The latest walk-in shooting comes even as Baltimore has been on pace for fewer shootings than in recent years. As of Sept. 1, the city had recorded 72 homicides and 201 nonfatal shootings in 2026, compared with 88 homicides and 213 nonfatal shootings on the same date a year earlier, per Baltimore Fishbowl. The outlet also reported that police had seized more than 1,367 firearms, including 138 ghost guns, and made 826 gun arrests by late August.
Five of the city's ten Safe Streets violence-intervention sites — including one in Park Heights — had gone more than 365 days without a homicide within their zones as of late August, the same report noted. Safe Streets staff had mediated more than 929 potentially violent conflicts and connected 338 at-risk residents with support services during that stretch. Even against that backdrop of citywide improvement, Thursday night's shooting is a reminder that Park Heights Avenue remains a flashpoint, and detectives are still working to determine exactly what happened and who was responsible.
