New players are a specific audience for Friday’s Commander night at Level One Game Shop: community members will be available to teach the game, identifiable by wristbands, and the shop will provide demo decks for learning before trying a full deck, The Pitch reports. Commander decks generally contain 100 cards, with a legendary creature serving as the commander, according to TCGplayer.
The game night runs from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Level One, followed Saturday by a Magic-themed flash tattoo event at Fountain City Tattoo from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to The Pitch. Friday attendees receive a $50 voucher for Saturday’s flash event, and Level One will raffle tattoo gift certificates during the game night, the outlet reports.
The collaboration grew from a connection between the two businesses: The Pitch reports that Fountain City tattoo artist Caleb first encountered Magic as a beginner at Level One, where he got help learning the game. Other artists at the studio later took an interest as well, according to the outlet.
Level One is at 400 Grand Boulevard, Suite 420, in Kansas City’s City Market district, according to the City Market merchant listing. During Friday’s event, local vendors will set up in the hall outside the shop, The Pitch reports.
Fountain City Tattoo plans to reveal its Magic-inspired flash designs on Saturday; prices start at $100, and the studio expects to post the designs on Instagram at @fountaincitytatoo, according to The Pitch. Ghost Kitchen will serve a Magic-themed menu outside the studio during the event, the outlet reports.
