The fatal shooting of Justin Hayden, 41, of Berea, occurred Oct. 25 in the parking lot of the Glenbrook Townhouses in Brook Park. Officers responding to the 6000 block of Glenway Drive found him with gunshot wounds to the head; he was taken to Southwest General Health Center, where he died, Cleveland.com reported, citing police and the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Authorities had not provided a motive or a detailed account of what led to the shooting. Cleveland.com reported that police said the public faced no further threat.
Other Brook Park cases were distinct
Earlier Brook Park shootings provide local context, but not evidence of a connection to Hayden’s death. In a separate case on Feb. 25, Cleveland 19 reported that officers found a 32-year-old man with gunshot wounds in the 6100 block of Middlebrook Boulevard and arrested a 49-year-old man in connection with that shooting: Cleveland 19’s report describes a different location and a wounded, rather than fatally injured, victim.
A later case had a different outcome for investigators at the time of reporting. Cleveland 19 reported on Nov. 27, 2024, that 18-year-old Damien Michael Thompson was found dead after a shooting in the 13500 block of Holland Road, with no arrests at that time: the report. These separate incidents illustrate differing circumstances and investigative statuses; a handful of cases does not establish whether shootings in Brook Park are becoming more or less frequent.
