New York City is starting Friday under clear skies near 59 degrees, with sunshine and a warm-up ahead. Temperatures should climb into the upper 60s before a dry front brings sharper winds and a cooler feel by afternoon.
The city is expected to stay rain-free Friday, but winds will increase to roughly 23 to 29 mph Friday afternoon, with gusts of 25 to 30 mph. The National Weather Service says the strongest northwest gusts arrive late Friday afternoon and continue into the first half of Friday night.
Afternoon Winds Pick Up Across The City
Friday’s high should reach about 69 degrees before temperatures slide through the 60s later in the day. Friday night will be mostly clear, with a low near 52 and occasional gusts still reaching roughly 26 mph.
That dry, blustery setup is also raising the risk of fire spread in the Lower Hudson Valley and southern Connecticut, where the weather service issued a special statement for Friday afternoon. New York City does not have a land-based watch or warning listed, though a Small Craft Advisory covers some ocean waters and the eastern Sound entrance, and New York Harbor could see occasional gusts near 25 knots (about 29 mph).
Sunny Halloween Weekend Brings A Cooler Turn
Saturday looks favorable for Halloween plans, with sunny skies and a high near 61 degrees. The evening will turn chilly, falling to around 44 degrees under partly cloudy skies, so costumes may need to accommodate more than just candy runs.
Sunday looks partly sunny with a high near 66, followed by Monday with a high near 64. The updated outlook is a meaningful shift from the earlier Hoodline forecast, with Friday’s windier conditions and cooler Halloween weekend now more clearly defined.
Warmth Returns Before Midweek Showers
Temperatures are expected to gradually warm early next week. Wednesday could bring a slight chance of afternoon showers, with rain chances increasing Wednesday night and showers likely Thursday.
For now, the practical forecast is simple: sunglasses Friday, a warm layer for Halloween night and a mostly dry stretch through Tuesday. The next unsettled weather appears more likely around the middle of next week.
