A Boca Raton man is facing felony charges after police say he broke into his ex-girlfriend's apartment just a day after their breakup, then sent her a photo proving he had been inside. Andrew Joseph Inserra, 41, was arrested following an investigation that began when the woman reported her apartment had been broken into, according to police.
The woman had ended her romantic relationship with Inserra the day before she called police, as reported by CBS12. An affidavit states that Inserra sent her a picture of the inside of her bathroom, a detail investigators say suggested he had entered the apartment without her permission.
Inserra offered a different explanation when detectives confronted him. He told them the bathroom picture was old, and separately claimed the woman had invited him over by text message. He would not let police check his phone to back up that claim, the station's report notes.
Phone Data Undercuts His Account
That refusal did not stop the investigation. Investigators obtained a warrant to search Inserra's phone, and the device's location data placed it at the woman's home at the exact time the bathroom pictures were taken, according to the same account.
A review of call logs and text messages added another layer to the case. Boca Raton police found that Inserra had repeatedly messaged the woman despite being told to stop, per the station's reporting.
Impersonating a Dispatcher
Investigators say the messages included something stranger than persistence. In one exchange, Inserra pretended to be a Boca Raton police dispatcher, the article reports.
Based on the break-in allegation, the stalking pattern and the impersonation, Inserra was arrested and charged with burglary of an unoccupied dwelling, aggravated stalking, and false personation of a law enforcement officer. Under Florida Statute 784.048, aggravated stalking is classified as a third-degree felony when someone willfully, maliciously and repeatedly follows, harasses or cyberstalks another person and makes a credible threat, according to the Florida Legislature.
