A Bowie High School student was robbed at knifepoint inside a campus bathroom Thursday, and the stolen cellphone was used to transfer money before a suspect was caught on school grounds. Police say the student reported the attack to the school resource officer at around 12:30 p.m., setting off a fast-moving response that led to one arrest and a second student identified as a suspect.

According to thebaynet.com, the student told the officer that two individuals approached inside the bathroom, and that one of them had a knife and demanded the student's phone. The phone was then used to transfer funds, the outlet reported, citing police. The same account was also reported by DC News Now, which first brought the incident to wider attention Friday morning.

Swift Response From Campus Officer

The school resource officer and responding Bowie police officers moved quickly once the student came forward, apprehending one suspect and identifying a second individual allegedly involved, per the same account. The apprehended student will be charged as an adult, police said, while the second student was removed from campus as the investigation into that person's involvement continues.

No injuries were reported in connection with the incident. Still, the investigation remains active, and officials have said there is no threat to students or the surrounding community — a reassurance aimed at calming nerves even as detectives continue piecing together what happened in the bathroom and who else may have been involved.

Not Connected to Earlier October Robbery

Investigators have said this robbery was unrelated to a separate student robbery that occurred near the school on October 8. Beyond that distinction, no further details about the earlier incident have been released.

This is not the first time Bowie High School has dealt with a strong-armed robbery involving students. In May 2025, two juvenile suspects were taken into custody in connection with a robbery at the school, with detectives charging them with robbery, first- and second-degree assault, and theft, according to the City of Bowie.

Police are asking anyone with information about Thursday's bathroom robbery to contact the Bowie Police Department at 240-544-5700.
