A French brasserie is planned for Marietta Square. Brasserie Genevieve, co-owned by Georganne “Gigi” Rose, is taking over the former Asher & Rose space at 45 West Park Square.
According to the Marietta Daily Journal, a French restaurant is coming to the square. Georganne “Gigi” Rose and Salem Makhlouf co-own the project and also run North and Three Roses Tavern on the square. The couple signed the lease in September, and construction is underway.
Asher & Rose previously occupied the address. What Now Atlanta reported that Makhlouf is the new owner of the space and that Steve Josovitz of the Shumacher Group represented the seller.
A Menu Built on French Brasserie Classics
French sandwiches, salads and burgers are also planned, along with a wide selection of French wines.
Mornings are meant to be just as French, with pastries, omelets, smoked salmon, quiche Lorraine and croissants on offer.
A Chef's Dream Years in the Making
For Makhlouf, this is personal. He told the paper, “Now my dream is coming true about the French restaurant.” He is from Tunisia, a former French colony, and speaks French.
“I was a bus boy, a server, the manager, you know, I did it all,” he said. Rose, for her part, said of the Marietta location, “We're excited. This is our community. I mean, I love Canton, but we live in Marietta.”
A Spacious Marietta Square Location
The space is a big one. Per What Now Atlanta, it offers a 6,000-square-foot main level, a 3,000-square-foot basement and a 1,200-square-foot mezzanine, with room for 130 diners on the main level, 45 more on a sidewalk patio and 30 bar seats. That report also says the team behind the restaurant appears to own L on North, a nearby Marietta Square spot with a second location in Canton.
Opening Timeline Still Unsettled
What Now Atlanta reported that the concept would likely open in December or January.
Dinner service will follow only after the restaurant receives its liquor license, according to the Daily Journal. Until then, the neighborhood will have to wait a bit longer for those escargots.
