State police troopers and Brockton police spent the early morning hours investigating a crash at the intersection of Circle and Intervale streets in Brockton, where at least one person was seen being loaded into an ambulance on a stretcher. No information on injuries or what caused the collision had been released as of Wednesday morning.
According to Boston 25 News, an overnight photojournalist for the station captured video of a minivan being towed away from the scene. The outlet reported that it had reached out to both state police and Brockton police for more information but had not yet received further details on the circumstances of the crash or the extent of anyone's injuries.
Boston 25 News described its report as developing and said it would provide updates as more information becomes available. It remains unclear how many vehicles were involved, what led to the crash, or whether the person transported by ambulance suffered serious injuries.
A Familiar Stretch of Road
This is not the first time the area around Intervale Street has drawn police attention. Brockton police investigated a separate, serious collision between a motorcycle and a car on Ames Street near Intervale Street at about 7:33 p.m. one Tuesday, according to NBC Boston. The drivers of both vehicles were rushed to the hospital, and the station reported that it was not immediately clear what led to that crash or how badly the drivers were hurt. The available evidence does not establish any connection between that incident and Wednesday's crash at Circle and Intervale streets.
Brockton has also seen pedestrian-involved crashes in other parts of the city. A woman died and a man was injured after they were struck by a vehicle in Brockton in a separate incident reported in April, according to WCVB. There is no indication that case is related to Wednesday's crash either.
A Citywide Pattern on Paper
Traffic safety advocates have flagged Brockton as a persistent trouble spot in recent years. A statewide report from WalkMassachusetts found that Brockton recorded at least two pedestrian crash deaths every year for five years running, part of a broader trend in which more than half of the state's pedestrian fatalities occurred in Environmental Justice communities in 2025. Statewide, Massachusetts recorded 354 total traffic fatalities that year, including at least 76 pedestrians, with 43.4 percent of those killed while walking age 65 or older, per the same report.
The City of Brockton has acknowledged the issue in planning documents, which reference an analysis of fatal and serious-injury crashes by light conditions between January 2018 and December 2022 built on MassDOT's crash- and risk-based screening tools. None of that broader data has been tied to Wednesday's crash at Circle and Intervale streets, and the cause of this particular collision remains under investigation.
Boston 25 News said it will continue to provide updates on the crash as more information becomes available.
