A brick building at the corner of Pearl and Center roads that stood empty for several years in Brunswick now hums with dental drills instead of dust. Hylan Dental Care cut the ribbon on its new headquarters there this week, moving into a structure that once served the community as a general store, post office, real estate office and tax office before falling vacant.
The Northern Medina County Chamber Alliance hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new owners on Wednesday, according to cleveland.com. The restoration took about a year and transformed the building with a new facade, new windows and a bright interior that now holds six treatment rooms, a large reception area and offices, per the same report. A partnership called 1378 Pearl Road Brunswick LLC purchased both the building and the property immediately south of it, which previously contained two small homes.
Debbie Boehmke said Hylan Dental Care has served Northeast Ohio since 1979, and the practice describes itself as family-owned on its Brunswick location page. Owner Brad Hylan said seeing the building for the first time was jaw-dropping, the outlet reported, recalling that his wife, Suzie, called Brunswick a thriving community and suggested the couple drive around town before they settled on the site.
From Three Offices to a Headquarters With Room to Grow
Dr. Daniel Escovar, who has worked with Hylan since 2023 when the practice had three locations, formed a partnership with Hylan to open the new office, the outlet's report states. Escovar told the publication he emphasized preserving the building's historic architecture while equipping it for 21st-century dental care, and he said the treatment rooms were designed to feel open and welcoming. The clinic also uses lights mounted on clinicians' headgear rather than ceiling-mounted fixtures, per the same account.
Escovar and Soliman both provide care at the Brunswick office, which the practice lists at 1378 Pearl Road, Brunswick, Ohio 44212, according to its website. The office is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., and offers general, restorative, cosmetic, implant and orthodontic services, among others. The practice lists same-day appointments as available depending on availability.
A Training Center and Build-to-Suit Space Still to Come
The building's basement and upper story still need to be completed, the report notes, even after roughly a year of restoration work. Escovar said the lower floor is slated to become a dental training center, fulfilling what Brad Hylan has described as his dream of having a place to train dentists. Escovar added that he hopes to rent the upper floor for offices, possibly as shared office space, and said the cleared property next door will be available for build-to-suit development.
Debbie Boehmke, executive director of the Northern Medina County Chamber Alliance, welcomed attendees at the ribbon cutting and presented proclamations from the chamber, Medina County commissioners and state Rep. Melanie Miller, according to the outlet's report. Brunswick Mayor Ron Falconi also presented a proclamation on behalf of the city. Escovar thanked the people who lined the sidewalk for the event and said the team hopes to bring many smiles to the community.
Debbie Boehmke said Brad Hylan built his practice around relationships, patient comfort and treating each patient like family. Dr. Escovar, identified by the practice as a third-generation dentist, completed dental school at Universidad Santa Maria in Caracas, Venezuela, and an oral maxillofacial surgery residency at Universidad El Bosque in Bogota, Colombia, according to his bio on the Hylan Dental Care website. He also served as associate faculty at Case Western Reserve Dental School from 2020 to 2022 and as attending faculty at MetroHealth Medical Center from 2017 to 2022.
