Alisa and Alicia Officer, the sisters behind Unapologetic Coffee, have purchased a building at 1476 Main Street in Buffalo to serve as a dedicated expansion site for their coffee-roasting operation. The move gives the company a second Main Street address, separate from its current café, as the pair works to grow production without disturbing the retail side of the business.
The building will become home to what the sisters have called their “ever-evolving coffee roastery enterprise,” according to Buffalo Rising, which reported the purchase. The outlet described it as a dedicated project meant to permanently establish and upscale the company's roasting facility operations, rather than a stopgap fix.
The idea is to keep the café experience and the bulk production side of the business running on separate tracks. As the report put it, the goal is to let Unapologetic Coffee scale up its bean production without crowding the front-facing retail café that customers already know. The company's current café at 899 Main Street will remain fully open, continuing as what Buffalo Rising called the business's primary community hub and flagship storefront.
From a Single Storefront to Two Main Street Addresses
Unapologetic Coffee's story on Main Street goes back several years. The sisters' venture began at 1375 Main Street in 2022, the same report notes, before the business later relocated its café to 899 Main Street, a building now home to BestSelf Behavioral Health.
That relocation wasn't a quiet one. BestSelf Behavioral Health announced in April 2024 that it had partnered with the locally owned coffee company to serve its products at the organization's new headquarters. The headquarters itself was part of a $20 million project overseen by Uniland Development, which added a third floor to the 899 Main Street building. BestSelf's administrative offices and the Scott Bieler Child Advocacy Center officially opened there on October 26, 2026.
Unapologetic Coffee's planned move to that address had been in the works for months before it happened. A November 2024 Buffalo Rising report said the shift to 899 Main Street was expected to expand the company's reach into the broader Buffalo community, including Allentown, while improving its roasting capabilities, though an exact opening date had not been set at that time. A separate BestSelf account of the move described the arrangement plainly: the original Unapologetic Coffee location near Utica would be dedicated to roasting, freeing up the new café space for customers.
A Building a Few Doors From Diamond Lofts
The newly purchased 1476 Main Street building sits just a few doors down from the Diamond Lofts development project, according to Buffalo Rising's report, placing Unapologetic Coffee's latest investment in a stretch of Main Street already seeing other development activity.
Alisa and Alicia Officer, described in the report as sisters and entrepreneurs, said the purchase reflects more than a logistical upgrade. The pair framed it as “the dream to bring Black business back to the neighborhood,” according to Buffalo Rising, tying the roastery expansion to a broader commitment to the community around Main Street.
A Small-Batch Roaster With Buffalo Roots
On its own website, Unapologetic Coffee describes itself as a minority-owned coffee roaster based in Buffalo, New York, and says it small-batch roasts all of its beans on site. The company has also been included among lists of the city's independent coffee roasters, according to RoastLocal, reflecting its place in a local scene that has seen other new entrants recently, including Cloud Cover Coffee, which opened its first brick-and-mortar café in downtown Buffalo in February 2025.
For now, the 899 Main Street café remains the face of Unapologetic Coffee for daily customers, while the sisters turn their attention to building out the roasting side of the business at 1476 Main Street.
