A person was shot early Sunday morning on a residential stretch of East Federal Street in Burlington City, and police say the investigation remains open with no arrests and no suspect descriptions released. Officers found the wounded victim after responding to reports of gunfire in the 100 block of the street, then rushed the person to a Camden trauma center for treatment.

According to Patch, officers responded to the 100 block of East Federal Street for a report of shots fired. The victim was taken to Cooper University Hospital's Trauma Center in Camden, where the injuries were described as non-critical. Police also said multiple witnesses were on scene, though investigators have not disclosed the victim's age, identity, or specific injuries, and the department has not specified the exact time of the shooting.

As reported by Shore News Network, Burlington City police officers located the injured victim and spoke with several witnesses at the scene before the person was transported for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators have not released details about what led to the gunfire or whether the victim was targeted, and the department has not indicated whether additional victims or suspects were involved.

Detectives Seek Surveillance and Dashcam Footage

Burlington City detectives are asking residents and motorists near East Federal Street to check home surveillance cameras and vehicle dashcams for anything that might help the investigation. Investigators believe footage recorded around the time of the shooting could provide useful information, per the same Shore News Network account.

Anyone with information or video footage is asked to contact Detective Cameron Lung at 609-386-0200, extension 278, or [email protected]. The Burlington City Police Department said additional information would be released when available and when doing so would not interfere with the investigation. No arrests have been made, and police have not released descriptions of potential suspects.

East Federal Street's History of Gun Violence

Sunday's shooting is not the first time gunfire has struck this stretch of East Federal Street. A decade earlier, a fatal shooting on the same street on Aug. 20, 2016, was captured by surveillance video, according to an affidavit of probable cause cited by the Burlington County Times. That shooting killed 24-year-old Byron Turner, who was struck in the head and later pronounced dead at Cooper University Hospital in Camden. Samuel James, 26, of Burlington Township, was arrested two days later and charged with murder and weapons offenses, and a 5-year-old girl who was injured while fleeing the scene was treated at Lourdes Medical Center and released.

That same year, seven other people had been injured in shootings in Burlington City since June, the Burlington County Times reported at the time. A separate November 2016 report from the paper found that at least six shootings had been reported in Burlington City that year, including an Oct. 14 shooting on Library Street and the Aug. 20 shooting on East Federal Street. That November report also described a man shot in the leg in the backyard of a home on East Federal Street on a Saturday night, after he told police a masked man approached him, displayed a handgun and shot him for an unknown reason.

Burlington City police say the current investigation into Sunday's shooting continues, with detectives relying on tips, witness accounts and any available video from the area as they work to determine what happened and who was responsible.
