Officers on scene found the man with a single gunshot wound to his torso, and he was taken to Wyckoff Hospital by private means, police said. News12 reported that the victim was 42.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains ongoing, per the same report. Police have not released a suspect description or a motive for the shooting. Police responded to the 911 call at about 10:45 p.m. Saturday.
A Pattern Of Gun Violence Along Myrtle Avenue
This is not the first shooting to rattle the Myrtle Avenue corridor in Bushwick. In a separate, unrelated incident, a 33-year-old man was shot in the head at a BP gas station on Myrtle Avenue and later died at Elmhurst Hospital, according to CBS News. Police said that shooting happened just after 4 a.m., and investigators were still searching for suspects.
Just weeks earlier, a 35-year-old man was shot in the leg outside 567 Wilson Ave. in Bushwick late on a Friday night, and police had not identified a suspect or a motive by the next morning, Hoodline previously reported. Paramedics in that case rushed the victim to Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, where police said he was expected to recover.
Crime Trends In Bushwick Paint A Mixed Picture
The broader numbers around gun violence in the neighborhood tell a complicated story. The 83rd Precinct, which covers Bushwick, recorded a 31.6% increase in major crime during the first half of 2026, according to a Vital City analysis of NYPD CompStat figures cited by Hoodline. That stands in contrast to citywide figures showing shooting incidents down 7.0% year-to-date and shooting victims down 4.3% compared with the previous year, as of the week ending July 26.
Bushwick Daily has reported that shootings in Brooklyn have risen even as crime in the borough's northern precincts fell 15% from the prior year. The outlet also noted that the 83rd Precinct's murder count has fallen sharply over the decades, totaling six so far that year compared with 18 in 2000 and 77 in 1990, while robbery and burglary in Bushwick are down 55.61% and 56.65%, respectively, since 2000. In one June alone, the precinct logged 111 crimes, including 13 burglaries, 30 felony assaults and one rape case, per Bushwick Daily.
For now, the Myrtle Avenue shooting adds to a string of unresolved gun violence cases in the neighborhood. Anyone with information has not been directed to a specific tip line in available reporting, and the investigation into Saturday night's shooting continues as police work to identify a suspect.
