A 67-year-old Cadillac man is in custody after Michigan State Police say he fired a gun from his front porch, threatened to harm both the victim and responding officers, and then barricaded himself inside his Cherry Grove Township home before surrendering. The victim escaped unharmed, and investigators later seized seven guns and two magazines from the property.
According to Michigan State Police, troopers responded to the residence around 7:45 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2026, after a report of a domestic violence assault, as detailed by upnorthlive.com. Officials said the suspect had fired a gun from the front porch before going back inside and threatening to hurt the victim and law enforcement. The victim was able to leave the residence unharmed, police said.
Standoff Prompts Specialized Response
The threats prompted state police to call in its Emergency Support Team, Canine Unit and Aviation Unit, per the same account. Troopers then communicated with the man from outside the residence, and he voluntarily left and was arrested without incident, according to CBS Detroit.
Cherry Grove Township sits in Wexford County, roughly 48 miles south of Traverse City, according to CBS Detroit. Once the man was in custody, troopers executed a search warrant at the home and seized seven guns and two magazines, the station reports.
Charges Filed, Identity Withheld
The man was medically evaluated before being lodged at the Wexford County Jail, where he faces domestic violence, felonious assault and weapon charges, the report notes. His identity is being withheld until after he is arraigned, police said.
