Jordan Chymbor, a 21-year-old Cheshire native and former Cheshire High School softball player, died on Oct. 17 after suffering a sudden medical emergency while attending the University of South Carolina. She was in her final semester, and an online fundraiser launched for her family has since raised more than $46,000 to help cover medical, travel, funeral and burial expenses.
The gofundme campaign, organized by Francis and Carissa Hunter, describes Chymbor as a sweetheart and wonderful young woman who brought joy and energy to everyone around her. The fund had collected more than $40,000 by Oct. 23. According to CT Insider, the cause of her death was not disclosed in her obituary.
Chymbor graduated from Cheshire High School in 2023, where she played softball for the Rams, as reported by Daily Voice. She went on to study neuroscience at the University of South Carolina, though reports diverge on the exact degree she was pursuing — CT Insider described it as a Bachelor of Arts in neuroscience, while Patch reported she was set to graduate in December with a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience.
A Future Devoted to Helping Others
Chymbor aspired to become a physician assistant and hoped to use her neuroscience studies to help people struggling with eating disorders, the article notes. Family members remembered her as smart, loving, upbeat and helpful, qualities friends and former teammates echoed in tributes shared online.
She was also known for her talent as a baker, her eye for design, and her natural ability as a leader and mentor, according to the same report. At family holiday gatherings, Chymbor reportedly held a special place as the designated toastmaster, a detail relatives shared while mourning her unexpected loss.
In a statement shared per gofundme, Chymbor's family said they were heartbroken by the sudden loss and still awaited answers about what happened. She is survived by her parents, two brothers, her boyfriend and extended family.
Softball Team and Former Employer Mourn a Beloved Friend
The Cheshire High School softball team mourned the loss of their former player and teammate, saying in a social media post that Jordan would be deeply missed and forever remembered. Anthony's Pizzeria and Deli in Cheshire also paid tribute, saying Chymbor was a former employee who had become part of its family.
On X, local news personality Greg Lederer wrote, “Tonight, I heard about the passing of 2023 Cheshire grad Jordan Chymbor. I'm heartbroken. She was a great softball player, but a more amazing human. I send condolences to her family/friends. Her spirit will last forever in the hearts of the people she impacted positively.”
