Greater Cincinnati is set to host the 2027 MLS Next Cup, the national postseason championship for Major League Soccer's elite youth development league, with 650 teams descending on the region from June 5 through 13, 2027. The nine-day tournament will crown champions across six age groups, from under-13 through under-19, and is projected to generate at least $30 million in economic impact alongside roughly 50,000 hotel room nights for the area.
The Cincinnati Regional Sports Commission announced the selection, which, according to WKRC, will spread matches across three venues: TQL Stadium in the West End, Voice of America Park in West Chester Township, and Warren County Sports Park in Turtlecreek Township. The tournament also includes the Allstate Homegrown Division for under-15 through under-19 teams, a showcase that the station reports gives players a chance to compete in front of professional, national-team and college scouts.
The commission partnered with FC Cincinnati, Travel Butler County and the Warren County Convention & Visitors Bureau to pull off the multi-site event, per the same account. Ben Huffman called it “a true regional effort,” while FC Cincinnati's Jeff Berding said the selection “reflects the region's growing place in the sport,” adding that Cincinnati “has become a destination for the sport at every level,” the station reported.
Splitting the Load Across Three Counties
The arrangement reflects a broader strategy of combining urban and suburban infrastructure across Hamilton, Butler and Warren counties, according to the Cincinnati Regional Sports Commission. By distributing the 650 teams across Voice of America Park and Warren County Sports Park while reserving TQL Stadium for premier showcase and championship matches, regional tourism bureaus can accommodate the tournament's massive field requirements, the commission notes.
Voice of America MetroPark Athletic Complex brings serious capacity to the table: 25 multi-purpose athletic fields, including two lighted synthetic turf fields and 23 grass fields, plus a 3,400-square-foot fieldhouse with training facilities, concessions and a press box, according to MetroParks of Butler County. Warren County Sports Park, meanwhile, was purpose-built as a destination sports facility financed through local lodging tax revenues managed by the Warren County Convention & Visitors Bureau, rather than county general fund dollars, per the Warren County Convention & Visitors Bureau — a funding model designed specifically to attract national events like this one.
TQL Stadium's Global Pedigree Takes Center Stage
TQL Stadium, which will host the tournament's marquee matches, opened in May 2021 at a construction cost of $250 million, with a 26,000-seat capacity and a specialized Bermuda grass pitch built for top-tier soccer, according to Wikipedia. The stadium's reputation extends well beyond Cincinnati: in September 2022, it was named “Best Venue” in the world at the World Football Summit in Madrid, chosen by an international panel for its architectural design, technology and matchday operations, as reported by Cincinnati CityBeat. The honor underscores how far the region's soccer profile has traveled since the stadium opened, a trajectory Hoodline has also tracked as the USMNT prepares to play there this November.
Ahead of the full championship, an Ohio Regional MLS Next Cup qualifier will be held at the Voice of America Athletic Complex in West Chester in April 2027, per WKRC's report. FC Cincinnati's own academy has shown it can compete at this level: the club's under-15 division went undefeated in league play with an 8-0-0 record during the 2024-25 regular season to reach the national postseason, according to FC Cincinnati.
Part of a Record-Setting Season for MLS Next
The 2026-27 season marks the seventh and largest in MLS Next history, growing to include more than 53,000 players, 2,743 teams and 310 clubs across the United States and Canada competing in over 27,000 total matches, according to MLSSoccer.com. Those academies are affiliated with all 30 Major League Soccer clubs, per WKRC. The league's full national events slate, released October 5, 2026, also places MLS Next Flex at the new Arthur M. Blank U.S. Soccer National Training Center in Atlanta in April 2027 and the Generation adidas Cup at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, in March 2027, according to SoccerWire.
The MLS Next Cup itself rotates annually among major regional multi-sport complexes — it was held at the Richard Siegel Soccer Complex in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, in June 2025 and the Regional Athletics Soccer Complex in Salt Lake City, Utah, in May 2026, SoccerWire reports. Before the championship rolls around, MLS Next Fest, scheduled for December 2-13, 2026, in Mesa, Arizona, will serve as North America's largest youth recruiting event, drawing more than 1,600 teams and 32,000 players across 2,400 matches, per MLSSoccer.com.
Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval said hosting the 2027 tournament will drive local job creation and tax revenues across city neighborhoods while showcasing the region to visiting families from across North America, according to the Cincinnati Regional Sports Commission. With roughly 650 teams, 50,000 projected hotel room nights and a nine-day footprint spanning three counties, the event stands as one of the largest youth sports gatherings the region has ever hosted.
