More than 50 law enforcement officers fanned out across Clay County, Missouri on Thursday in a coordinated warrant sweep that ended with 15 arrests and officers finding two teenagers who had been reported missing out of Stone County. The operation, led by the Clay County Sheriff's Office, also turned up methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia inside a Gladstone apartment after officers spotted the items in plain view while trying to make an unrelated arrest.
According to KCTV5, the two teenagers found during the sweep had been reported missing from Stone County and were turned over to juvenile authorities once located. The outlet reported that the sheriff's office coordinated the sweep with help from eight other agencies, a sign of how wide the operation's footprint stretched across the northern Kansas City metro. KSHB 41 Kansas City separately reported that 13 of those arrested faced various felony charges, while two others were held for investigation and had not been charged at the time of that report, per the sheriff's office.
Agencies From Across the Metro Joined the Effort
The assisting agencies named in the sweep included the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Platte County Sheriff's Office, and police departments from Gladstone, Kansas City, Kearney, Liberty, North Kansas City and Pleasant Valley, the same KCTV5 report noted. That breadth of participation underscores how the warrant sweep was coordinated as a regional push rather than a single-department operation.
Officers encountered the drugs during the Gladstone apartment stop. They entered the apartment while attempting to make a separate arrest and saw illegal drugs and paraphernalia in plain view, prompting them to seek a search warrant for the unit.
Search Warrant Yields Meth, Paraphernalia
Once the search warrant was granted, officers recovered methamphetamine and additional drug paraphernalia from the apartment, according to the same account. The sheriff's office said the discovery could lead to additional charges, though no further detail on timing or who might face them has been released.
The arrests stemming from Thursday's sweep covered a range of allegations, including aggravated DWI, resisting arrest by fleeing, narcotics possession investigations, burglary, stealing, property damage, probation violations and forgery-related charges, per the sheriff's office list cited by KCTV5. The finding of the two teenagers was part of the broader operation, with officers turning them over to juvenile authorities rather than detailing further how or where they were located.
