A Cocoa woman allegedly took an Uber to Port St. John early Saturday morning after tracking her boyfriend's phone, then fired a single shot through the passenger window of Kelly's car, striking the woman inside in the shoulder. Katherine Dale Kelly now faces attempted first-degree murder and several related firearm charges in connection with the shooting near Bamboo Avenue.

Tracking a Boyfriend's Late-Night Drive

According to WESH, Kelly, who multiple reports identify as 24 — though the New York Post lists her age as 25 — took an Uber to her boyfriend's location while carrying a handgun after tracking him. The boyfriend, Elijah Baker, had reportedly taken Kelly's Volkswagen for a late-night drive before picking up Angel Adenau at roughly 1:20 a.m. and parking near a residence on Bamboo Avenue in Port St. John, per Space Coast Daily.

Kelly allegedly approached the passenger side of the parked car carrying a pink-and-black Glock handgun and fired one round through the window, striking Adenau in the left shoulder.

Self-Defense Claim Shifts to Admission

Kelly first told investigators she fired in self-defense, but later changed her account, saying she wanted to “make a point” because she believed Baker was cheating on her, according to The Space Coast Rocket. The outlet also reports that Baker allowed investigators to review his text conversation, which documented accusations of infidelity and an alleged threat by Kelly to shoot someone before the incident took place.

Deputies reportedly found the pink-and-black Glock inside Kelly's purse, the same publication notes. She is charged with attempted first-degree premeditated murder with a firearm, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, shooting a deadly missile into an occupied vehicle, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Held Without Bond, Public Defender Appointed

Kelly was booked into the Brevard County Jail on Saturday and remains held without bond, according to Sebastian Daily. She made her initial court appearance Sunday, when she was declared indigent and the Office of the Public Defender was appointed to represent her, per the same account from the Rocket.

Her arraignment is scheduled for Nov. 24 before Circuit Judge Michelle Naberhaus, the outlet reports. No information has been provided on whether Kelly has entered a plea or whether her bond status has since changed.
