A 15-year-old girl has gone missing from Colorado Springs, prompting state investigators to issue a Missing Indigenous Person Alert on Tuesday night. Aubry Mestas was last seen in the 1500 block of West Fillmore Street on October 12, wearing a black shirt and black shorts, according to the alert.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation describes Mestas as standing 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 150 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. The agency is asking anyone who spots her to call 911 or the Colorado Springs Police Department at 719-444-7000, and has designated that same number for media inquiries about the alert.

News of the alert first circulated through a post from CBI

on X Tuesday evening, which repeated the core details: Mestas's age, her last known location on West Fillmore Street, and the police contact number for anyone with information.

A Program Built to Respond Fast

The alert system now being used in Mestas's case traces back to legislation signed in 2022. The governor signed SB 22-150 on July 1 of that year, creating both the Office of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives and the Missing Indigenous Person Alert program, which the bureau notes was built specifically to broadcast notice of missing Indigenous people across the state.

That mechanism is now the same one working on Mestas's behalf, with the bureau pushing her description and last-known whereabouts out publicly in hopes that someone in the Colorado Springs area recognizes her.

Not the First Search for Mestas

This is not the first time Mestas has been the subject of a missing-person search this year. In June 2026, The Gazette reported that Colorado Springs police were searching for the teenager. That search ended with an update from KKCO 11 News confirming she had been found safe.

It remains unclear what led to Tuesday's new alert or whether it connects in any way to the earlier search. For now, investigators are focused on locating Mestas, and they are urging anyone with information on her current whereabouts to contact police immediately.
