A longtime fixture of Columbia Heights nightlife is pouring its last drinks this weekend. ZEBA, the bar that has anchored a stretch of 14th Street NW for 15 years, says it will close its doors on October 31, with a goodbye party planned for its final Saturday night in business.
The bar shared the news in a message thanking the neighborhood for 15 years of support, according to PoPville. “After 15 years of business, we’ll be closing our doors on Oct 31st,” the bar said, adding, “We’ll be having a goodbye party this Saturday thanking the neighborhood.”
Regulars hoping for one more night at ZEBA won’t be short on reasons to show up. The bar said it will roll out “a lot of specials that night” as part of the sendoff, giving longtime patrons a final chance to toast the space before it changes hands.
A 14th Street Landmark Since 2011
ZEBA’s roots on the block stretch back well over a decade. An earlier report on the bar’s opening placed Zeba Bar and Grill at 3423 14th Street NW, tucked into the lower level beneath Quiet Mind Yoga and It’s Vintage Darling, per the same outlet’s 2011 coverage.
What comes next for the space remains an open question. No new tenant or operator has been announced, and PoPville added that updates would be shared once plans take shape — “Stay tuned for updates on who will be taking over the space,” the post read.
Part of a Broader Wave of D.C. Closures
ZEBA’s exit lands amid a stretch of turnover across the District’s restaurant and bar scene. A recent roundup from Eater DC tracked restaurant closures around town this October, part of an ongoing tally the outlet keeps as businesses shut down across the city.
The picture earlier in the year was more mixed. D.C. restaurant closures actually dropped sharply in the first half of 2026, though industry leaders cautioned that a pending wage initiative could reverse that trend, according to the Washington Business Journal. Around the same time, WTOP News reported that a wave of high-profile closures had left many in the industry questioning whether the city could fully recover from reshaped dining habits.
14th Street has been through this before. Back in September 2020, multiple restaurants along the U Street and 14th Street corridors announced plans to close at the end of October, according to WJLA, a grim echo of the timing ZEBA now faces as it winds down operations on the same corridor.
For now, ZEBA’s focus is on Saturday night, when the bar plans to thank the neighborhood one last time before handing off its space on 14th Street to whoever comes next.
