Memphis is starting Sunday, October 18, under clear skies and light northeast winds, with temperatures in the upper 30s to low 40s early. Sunshine will quickly take over, sending the city toward a mild afternoon high near 72 degrees with no rain in sight.
Chilly Start Gives Way To Sunny Afternoon
The morning will feel more like late fall than mid-October, with temperatures near 42 degrees around sunrise and a chance for isolated patchy frost in colder spots north of Interstate 40. Winds should ease to around 5 mph as the day warms, making for comfortable conditions by the afternoon.
Sunday night will stay mostly clear, with temperatures falling to about 47 degrees. Monday, October 19, will bring another sunny day and a high near 76, followed by an even warmer stretch beginning Tuesday.
Dry Pattern Brings A Gradual Regional Warmup
The region is expected to warm gradually, with highs reaching the 80s in parts of the area by midweek and farther north later in the week. Overnight lows remain mostly in the upper 40s and low 50s. The forecast stays completely dry through the week, with generally light winds.
Dry Fuels Keep Fire Weather On The Radar
Despite the pleasant temperatures, the dry pattern comes with an outdoor-burning caution. The National Weather Service in Memphis says afternoon humidity will fall below 30 percent each day, with some areas potentially dropping below 20 percent by midweek.
After a month with little rainfall, grasses and other fuels are drying out, increasing the chance that a small fire could spread quickly. No watches or warnings are in effect, but residents should use care with grills, cigarettes and outdoor burning during the unusually dry week.
