A 38-year-old Corbin, Kentucky man, BJ Thomason, has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for attempted production of child pornography. The sentence was handed down this week, and federal investigators confirmed the outcome on Thursday.
According to FBI Louisville
, Thomason was sentenced on Wednesday to 15 years in prison for the offense. The bureau shared the update in a brief statement, noting only the defendant's name, age, hometown, the charge, and the length of the sentence.
Beyond those core details, FBI Louisville's statement did not include information about the sentencing court, the presiding judge, or a case number. The bureau's post also did not describe the conduct that led to the charge, identify any victim, or explain how the investigation began.
Federal law treats attempted production of child pornography as a serious felony offense. Under 18 U.S.C. § 2251, the United States Code states that the production, transportation, distribution, receipt, advertising, and possession of child pornography are harmful to the physiological, emotional, and mental health of the children depicted and carry a substantial and detrimental effect on society as a whole.
Sentences in Similar Federal Cases
Federal prosecutors in other districts have pursued comparable charges in recent months, though those cases involve entirely different defendants, facts, and jurisdictions. In Iowa, a Clinton man was sentenced to 30 years in federal prison for receipt and attempted production of child pornography, according to the U.S. Department of Justice, Southern District of Iowa.
In Pennsylvania, a Wayne County man was sentenced to 210 months, or roughly 17.5 years, for attempted production of child pornography, per the U.S. Department of Justice, Middle District of Pennsylvania. And in Washington state, a Yakima man received 240 months, or 20 years, for attempted production and possession of child pornography, the U.S. Department of Justice, Eastern District of Washington reported. A Fairbanks, Alaska man was separately sentenced to 12 years in prison for attempted production of child pornography and enticing a minor, according to the U.S. Department of Justice, District of Alaska.
For now, the confirmed facts in the Corbin case remain limited to what FBI Louisville has released: a 15-year prison sentence for a 38-year-old local man convicted of attempted production of child pornography.
