Two people are fighting for their lives after a shooting Wednesday afternoon on the 8700 block of Wood Homestead Drive in Dallas, where a known suspect fled the scene before officers arrived. Both victims were rushed to a local hospital in critical condition, and as of Thursday, police had not publicly released any information about the suspect.
According to NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth, Dallas police received the shooting call around 5:10 p.m. Wednesday and responded to find two people shot. A preliminary investigation determined that both victims were shot at the location by a known suspect, the station reports, though that individual was gone by the time officers got there.
Dallas Police active-call data offers a slightly different timestamp for the response, logging the call as a priority-1 shooting at 8700 Wood Homestead Dr. at 5:13:57 p.m. on October 28, 2026, under incident number 26-1946638 in the South Central division, according to Dallas OpenData. The discrepancy between the two times is minor, but it underscores how early the public record on this case still is.
Investigation Still in Early Stages
Officials have confirmed that both victims were transported to a hospital in critical condition, but no names, ages, or details about their relationship to one another or to the suspect have been made public. The station's report notes that the shooting investigation remains ongoing, and police have not released any suspect description, whereabouts, or information about potential charges.
That lack of detail leaves much of the incident unresolved for now. It is not yet known what led to the shooting or what relationship, if any, existed between those involved, since neither a motive nor the circumstances have been verified beyond the preliminary findings already reported.
Part of a String of Recent Shootings
The Wood Homestead Drive shooting comes about a month after another Dallas double shooting sent two people to the hospital following an early-morning incident on September 27. In that case, per the same NBC 5 account, officers responded to a shooting call in the 3700 block of Pueblo Street at approximately 4:56 a.m., and both victims were taken to the hospital by Dallas Fire-Rescue with conditions initially unknown.
A separate account of that same West Dallas shooting, reported by FOX 4 News, said two men were hospitalized with serious injuries while a third male was dropped off at a hospital with a gunshot wound. There is no verified connection between that Pueblo Street incident and Wednesday's shooting on Wood Homestead Drive.
Dallas has also seen other shootings in recent months, including one in which three people were shot in a nightclub parking lot on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Police said at the time that all three victims were stable and that no arrests had been made, according to a separate NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth report. Again, no link between that case and the Wood Homestead Drive shooting has been established.
Broader Crime Trends in Dallas
The city has reported a broader decline in violent crime heading into this year. Dallas police tallied 141 homicides in 2025, the lowest total since 2015, and aggravated-assault reports citywide were down 12% over the same period, according to The Dallas Morning News. The Dallas Police Department also maintains a daily violent-crime report tracking month-to-date and year-to-date comparisons by division, per the department's own crime-reports page.
For now, anyone with information about Wednesday's shooting is encouraged to watch for updates as Dallas police continue their investigation. No further details about the suspect, the victims, or a possible motive have been confirmed.
