A person has died following a crash at Mountain Vista Street and Rawhide Avenue in the southeast valley, and the intersection was shut down Monday night while investigators worked the scene. Officers responded at approximately 9:10 p.m., and police have not yet released details about the vehicles involved or the victim.

According to fox5vegas.com, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed it is investigating the deadly crash, and the intersection remained shut down while the scene was processed. The outlet reported that no further information had been made public about who was involved or how the crash occurred. KTNV also covered the closure as it unfolded Monday night.

This is not the first serious crash at that corner. A 78-year-old woman died in August 2025 from injuries sustained in a hit-and-run at the same intersection on July 3, 2025, according to ktnv.com. That crash happened around 7:16 p.m. when a GMC Yukon traveling on Mountain Vista struck a Hyundai Sonata that was attempting to make a left turn from Rawhide Street, the station reported.

A Driver Who Fled, Then Faced Charges

The driver of the GMC in the July crash was identified by police as 41-year-old Carlos Lee, who fled the scene on foot, per the same account. Lee was later arrested and charged with hit-and-run and DUI-related offenses, the station reported. It is unclear whether Monday's fatal crash involved similar circumstances, since police have not released information on the vehicles or people involved this time.

The intersection has drawn police attention more than once in recent months. Earlier this month, a Metro traffic officer's patrol motorcycle was struck by another vehicle near Rawhide Street and Mountain Vista Street shortly after 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 2, according to 8newsnow.com. That officer was investigating a separate collision when a passing vehicle hit the motorcycle, the outlet reported.

The officer was not injured, 8 News Now reported, and the other driver stopped at the scene and was detained, though police said at the time it was unclear whether that driver would face charges. That motorcycle collision and Monday night's fatal crash were separate events, as was the July hit-and-run.

Traffic Deaths Trending Down Statewide

Monday's fatal crash comes even as traffic deaths have been declining across Nevada this year. Nevada recorded 230 traffic fatalities statewide from Jan. 1 through Aug. 31, down from 261 during the same period in 2025, according to a report covered by the Las Vegas Sun. The number of fatal crashes statewide also fell, dropping to 218 from 245 over that same stretch.

Clark County, the state's most populous county, accounted for the bulk of those fatalities with 127 through August, down from 169 a year earlier, per the Las Vegas Sun's report. Pedestrian deaths statewide totaled 63 through the first eight months of 2026, down slightly from 65 during the same period in 2025. For all of 2025, Nevada recorded 380 traffic fatalities, down from 420 in 2024.

Police have not released the identity of the person who died Monday night, nor confirmed how the crash occurred or which vehicles were involved. Hoodline will update this story as Las Vegas police release additional information.
