Des Moines is starting Friday under cloudy skies with temperatures around 52 degrees, but the bigger story is unfolding overhead: showers are likely through the day. A few rumbles of thunder cannot be ruled out, especially in southern Iowa, and severe potential is very low. The forecast calls for a cool, damp high near 57, with easterly winds reaching 10 mph and gusts up to 20 mph.
Rain chances will ease somewhat during the afternoon, but scattered showers may linger into Friday evening. The National Weather Service in Des Moines says the area could see additional light rain and a few thunderstorms overnight.
Halloween Looks Warmer, But Still Damp
Saturday brings a warmer high near 65 degrees, though the clouds are expected to stick around. There is about a 30% chance of rain showers Halloween night, so Halloween plans may need a backup option, especially for outdoor events and trick-or-treating.
Saturday night should stay mostly cloudy with a low around 53. Sunday offers the best weather window of the weekend, with partly sunny skies and a high near 67 before the next system moves in.
Rain Returns Sunday Night And Monday
Showers could return after midnight Sunday, followed by a much wetter Monday. The forecast calls for a 90% chance of rain showers Monday and a high near 69.
Thunderstorms remain possible Monday night, and rain showers are likely again Tuesday. The unsettled stretch may continue into Wednesday.
