Devin Booker stepped onto the Phoenix Suns' media day stage on Sept. 28 wearing something that looked more like wearable graffiti than a basketball shoe. The Suns All-Star unveiled a new Futura x Nike Book 2 collaboration, splashed with spray-paint textures and abstract color splotches that instantly set it apart from anything else in his signature line.
A Canvas Built From Splatter and Spray Paint
The shoe was designed in partnership with Leonard Hilton McGurr, known as Futura, the New York graffiti artist whose decades-long relationship with street art has made him one of the most recognizable names in the scene, according to Yahoo Sports. Booker's version pairs the artist's signature style with “Book” lettering in Futura's script on the tongue tag, insole and outsole.
The Phoenix Suns star unveiled the collaboration during the team's 2026 media day, per Sporting News. The outlet's report notes that the shoe uses a spray-paint treatment not just on its canvas upper, but visible beneath the translucent outsole as well — a detail that gives the whole silhouette a messy, in-progress feel, as though the paint is still wet.
Futura's Signature Touches Throughout
The design leans heavily on McGurr's visual trademarks. A multicolor print pulled from his original artwork repeats his signature atom motif across the shoe, according to WWD. Booker's handwritten “Book” branding also appears on the tongue, blending the player's personal identity with the artist's chaotic, color-saturated aesthetic.
The shoe features a white upper with bold graphics. The result is less a basketball sneaker than a wearable piece of abstract art, built on a shoe that Nike has otherwise kept fairly straightforward.
Performance Specs Stay the Same
Underneath the artwork, the Book 2 keeps its original performance package. Nike describes the shoe as the second chapter of Booker's signature line, built with a forefoot Air Zoom unit, Cushlon 3.0 midsole, plush foam sock liner and a modernized, molded upper. The silhouette itself launched in January with orange and black Phoenix and Rising colorways inspired by Booker's ties to the Valley, before this Futura version reimagined it entirely.
Despite the buzz, Nike has not announced a release date or retail price for the Futura x Book 2, and the shoe may remain exclusive to Booker.
Futura's Long History With the Swoosh
This isn't McGurr's first rodeo with Nike. He first linked with the brand in 2002 for a Blazer inspired by Star Wars' Boba Fett, and has since worked on multiple projects with Nike SB, including Dunks and P-Rods, according to Nike. Just last year, he designed a limited Air Force 1 Low to mark his 70th birthday, with only 70 pairs made.
Booker's version adds another chapter to that history, and gives the Suns star a sneaker that looks nothing like the rest of his catalog. Whether sneakerheads will ever get the chance to buy a pair remains an open question for now.
