A 26-year-old Douglasville man is facing three criminal charges after police say he called 911 from inside a Red Lobster in an attempt to avoid paying his dinner bill. Officers said Abdul Rasheed was medically fine when they arrived, but he was hoping to walk away without settling up.
According to WSB-TV, Douglasville police say Rasheed called 911 on Sept. 24 from the Red Lobster on Highway 5. Officers determined Rasheed was okay, but said he was hoping to avoid his $63 bill, according to the station's reporting. A separate report from Patch put the unpaid tab at $63.77, though the exact figure varies between the two accounts.
Police say Rasheed tried to fake a medical emergency to get out of paying for his dinner, and officers arrested him once they confirmed nothing was actually wrong. He was charged with theft of services, unlawful conduct during a 911 call, and making a false report, per the station's account of the incident.
Booked Into Douglas County Jail
Rasheed was booked into the Douglas County Jail following his arrest, the station reported. Per the same account, he was granted a combined bond of $4,500, according to Patch. It remains unclear whether Rasheed has retained an attorney, and the outcome of the charges has not been reported.
