Downtown Los Angeles is heading into another dangerously hot Monday, with sunny skies and a high near 98 degrees. An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect through 8 p.m. Thursday, keeping the focus firmly on heat safety rather than fall weather.
The warning covers the coasts and valleys of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, where temperatures could reach 90 to 100 degrees near the coast and 106 degrees in the valleys, according to the National Weather Service. Monday night will offer only limited relief, with mostly clear skies and a low around 73.
Afternoon Heat Peaks Monday Through Wednesday
Temperatures will rise quickly Monday, with a high near 101 degrees. Winds should run 5 to 10 mph from the southeast before shifting west-southwest later in the day, but the breeze will do little to blunt the heat.
Tuesday and Wednesday will remain nearly as hot, with sunny highs near 97 degrees both days. Overnight lows should fall to around 71 Tuesday and 69 Wednesday, still warm enough to make cooling difficult for people without reliable air conditioning.
Cooler Weekend Finally Comes Into View
Thursday will ease slightly to about 94 degrees, followed by a high near 92 Friday and a more noticeable drop to 85 Saturday. Sunday looks cooler still, with a high near 79 and a slight chance of rain showers after 5 p.m.
The extended outlook adds a clearer path toward weekend relief than the earlier Hoodline forecast, while keeping the dangerous heat threat in place through Thursday evening.
Heat Safety Remains The Priority
The National Weather Service recommends drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air conditioning or another cool indoor space, avoiding direct sun and checking on relatives and neighbors. Outdoor workers, people exercising and anyone planning daytime activities should move strenuous tasks to early morning or evening whenever possible.
Children, older adults, pets and people with health conditions are especially vulnerable during prolonged heat.
