Downtown Los Angeles starts Tuesday with mild, humid conditions and mostly clear skies. Across Southern California, most highs will be 3 to 6 degrees below normal. It is a brief sunny pause, though, with the first notable storm of the rainy season expected to arrive Wednesday.
Sunny Tuesday Gives Way To Rain Wednesday
Tuesday will be mostly sunny. Southwest winds are expected to increase over Southern California. Clouds increase Tuesday night as temperatures fall to about 61 degrees, setting the stage for a much wetter day.
Showers are expected after 11 a.m. Wednesday, when the high should reach only 72 degrees and the chance of rain in Los Angeles County is 60% to 70%, according to the National Weather Service. Rain becomes more persistent Wednesday night, with thunderstorms possible, a low near 59 degrees and another half-inch to three-quarters of an inch of rain possible.
Thursday Stays Cool And Unsettled
Showers and thunderstorms remain possible Thursday, with a high near 69 degrees and a 90% chance of precipitation. The strongest downpours could bring lightning, gusty winds and brief heavy rain, so commuters and anyone with outdoor plans should expect slick conditions and changing visibility.
The broader Los Angeles forecast calls for close to an inch of rain in many coastal and valley areas, with higher totals possible on south-facing slopes. The wettest stretch is expected from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning, making Tuesday the easier window for errands, outdoor work and evening plans.
Clearer Skies Return For The Weekend
Rain should fade Thursday evening, followed by a sunny Friday with a high near 73 degrees. Saturday and Sunday warm back to around 79 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Offshore flow and a weak Santa Ana pattern are expected from Saturday through Monday.
