A 53-year-old man was shot in the stomach on Snyder Avenue in East Flatbush on Tuesday evening, leaving him hospitalized in stable condition as police continue investigating the shooting. No arrests have been made, and the investigation remains open.
NYPD officers responded to a 911 call just after 6 p.m. near the corner of Snyder and Utica avenues, according to Brooklyn Paper. When they arrived, officers found the man with a gunshot wound to his stomach. He was transported to One Brooklyn Health-Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition.
No Arrests as Investigation Continues
The NYPD said no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing, the outlet's report notes. No further details about the victim's identity or a possible motive have been released.
The shooting follows other violent incidents in East Flatbush. Just a month earlier, a 27-year-old man was critically wounded after being shot in the head while sitting behind the wheel of his parked Mercedes, according to New York Daily News. That shooting happened on Rutland Road near East 93rd Street at about 3:20 a.m., and the victim was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital in critical condition. As with Tuesday's shooting, no arrest had been made in that case.
A Year-Over-Year Drop in Shootings, Despite the Violence
The neighborhood has also seen gun violence at the very intersection where Tuesday's shooting unfolded. Back in September 2025, a 20-year-old man was shot once in the left thigh at about 9:23 p.m. near Snyder and Utica avenues and was taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition, per the same New York Daily News account.
Despite these recent incidents, the broader numbers show a sharp decline in shootings across the area this year. East Flatbush's 67th Precinct had recorded 10 shootings as of Oct. 25, down from 26 during the same period in 2025, the report states. The number of shooting victims in the precinct fell by nearly 65%, from 34 by that date last year to just 12 so far in 2026.
Anyone with information about Tuesday's shooting is urged to contact the NYPD. The investigation remains active, and police have not released any further updates on the case.
