A 34-year-old El Paso man wanted on 45 felony charges involving alleged sex offenses against children was arrested Saturday at an apartment complex in East El Paso, where deputies say he answered his own front door. Mauricio Toscano was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility after deputies with the Constable's Office for Precinct 6 took him into custody.
According to KFOX14/CBS4, Toscano is facing 20 counts of possession of child pornography, 18 counts of sexual performance of a child under 14, six counts of online solicitation of a minor under 14, and one count of online solicitation of a minor with sexual conduct. The charges were tied to a warrant deputies had been working to serve before locating him over the weekend.
Deputies arrived at an apartment complex along the 600 block of Lee Trevino at about noon Saturday, per the same account. Toscano reportedly opened the door himself, and deputies recognized him as the man they had been searching for in connection with the outstanding felony warrants.
Booking and Bond Details Differ Between Reports
Toscano was taken before a jail magistrate before being booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility under all 45 criminal charges, KFOX14/CBS4 reports. Accounts of his bond conditions vary: KFOX14/CBS4 reported that one of the sexual-performance-of-a-child charges carried a $250,000 bond, while KVIA reported that Toscano was being held under a $250,000 bond overall. KFOX14/CBS4 reported that the additional 44 charges had no bond.
As KFOX14/CBS4 reported, deputy constables with the El Paso County Constable's Office, Precinct Six, carried out the arrest in East El Paso before transporting Toscano to the downtown detention facility, where he appeared before a jail magistrate for a magistrate warning. That outlet's reporting also connected the 45 charges to warrant No. 20240D04095, per the constable's office.
Texas law defines sexual performance by a child and online solicitation of a minor as distinct felony offenses, with separate statutes covering possession of child pornography.
The Constable's Office for Precinct Six has encouraged residents with information on wanted subjects to contact Crime Stoppers of El Paso at 915-566-8477 or the office's non-emergency line at 915-832-4400.
