El Paso’s airwaves are heading into a graveyard this Halloween Eve. 93.1 KISS FM’s morning show, Iris & Grizz in the Morning, will broadcast live from Concordia Cemetery on October 30 from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., bringing listeners a live ghost tour, ticket giveaways and a paranormal investigation from among the cemetery’s more than 60,000 graves.
It marks what will be the first El Paso radio show to broadcast live from the historic cemetery, according to 93.1 KISS FM. The four-hour broadcast will include storytelling with Concordia Cemetery historians, ticket giveaways and a live ghost tour woven into the morning’s programming.
Lost El Paso Paranormal is set to join the hosts for an on-site investigation, per the same report. Historians from the Concordia Heritage Association are also expected to take part, including member Louie Zamorano, who has his own history with the grounds — he and his siblings previously recorded an episode of their podcast, Death in a Hoodie, from inside the cemetery, the station notes.
A Cemetery With Decades of Ghost Stories
Concordia Cemetery sits on 52 acres at 3700 E. Yandell Dr. and is the resting place of more than 60,000 members of the El Paso community, according to Concordia Cemetery. The grounds gained widespread use in the 1880s, when El Pasoans traveled three miles to bury their dead there, and by 1890 the cemetery had been divided into Catholic, Masonic, Jewish, Black, Chinese, military, Jesuit, city and county sections, the cemetery’s own history states.
The site earned a Historic Texas Cemetery designation from the Texas Historical Commission in 2005, as reported by Texas Highways. The nonprofit Concordia Heritage Association helps maintain the grounds and raises money for improvements, the outlet adds.
Not The Cemetery’s First Brush With the Paranormal
Concordia has drawn paranormal attention well before this Halloween broadcast. The television series Ghost Adventures brought its crew to the cemetery in 2016, and the Paso del Norte Paranormal Society runs regular tours of the grounds that expand every October with special Haunted History tours, the KISS FM report notes.
The cemetery’s children’s section has become a particular draw on those tours, which are led by the Paso del Norte Paranormal Society on the first and second Saturdays of each month, according to Texas Highways. The Death in a Hoodie podcast crew has also recorded an episode inside the cemetery.
What Visitors Can Expect Halloween Eve
Listeners are welcome to drop by in person during the broadcast. The station says visitors can stop by to say hello, join the paranormal investigation and storytelling, or let kids grab some candy while the show airs live from the grounds. No details on parking, admission or cemetery capacity for the event were included in the announcement.
