The interactive game that has sent guests chasing clues around EPCOT's World Showcase for nearly two decades is currently unavailable, and Disney has not said when a new version will return. DuckTales World Showcase Adventure, the latest incarnation of an experience that began life in 2009 as Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure, is listed by Disney as under refurbishment and may only be offered in a limited format going forward.

The shutdown traces back to Disney's retirement of the Play Disney Parks app, which guests used to navigate the DuckTales missions instead of the handheld Kimmunicator devices that powered the original game. According to Disney World's official attraction page, the experience is currently under refurbishment and may be available in a limited format, a notice that now reads as an understatement given the app it depended on no longer exists. As Inside the Magic reported, Disney has not announced plans to revive Kim Possible's original missions.

Per MickeyBlog, the current version of the experience ended with the retirement of the Play Disney Parks app, which officially shut down at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland after an eight-year run. The outlet reports that DuckTales World Showcase Adventure will return to EPCOT in a modified format, though it remains unclear how the game will function without the app that powered it. MagicBand+ has been floated as one possible replacement technology, the site notes, but nothing has been finalized.

From Secret Agents to a Duck-Themed Treasure Hunt

The game's roots go back to Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure, which opened at EPCOT on January 28, 2009, according to D23. That version transformed guests into secret agents who joined Team Possible to help save the world from super-villains, using a high-tech Kimmunicator to receive instructions and clues. Seven World Showcase pavilions were used, D23 notes, with each hosting a different mission, and guests could investigate locations, solve puzzles and complete assignments as the Kimmunicators activated hidden effects throughout the pavilions.

Sources disagree on exactly when that original game ended. D23 reports the attraction closed on May 17, 2012, while Extinct Disney states the Kim Possible Adventure officially closed on May 19, 2012. The sites also diverge on how long each mission ran, with D23 putting it at 45 to 60 minutes and Extinct Disney describing roughly 30-minute missions that could begin at one of five recruitment stations.

Agent P and the Duck Family Took Their Turns

Disney replaced Kim Possible with Agent P's World Showcase Adventure, which D23 says opened at EPCOT in June 2012 and featured Perry the Platypus leading guests to solve clues and thwart Dr. Doofenshmirtz's plots. Extinct Disney reports the new version reused many of the same mechanics and effects from its predecessor while adding interactive elements throughout World Showcase. That version ran until 2019, per the same account, when Disney announced it would be rethemed again as DuckTales World Showcase Adventure.

DuckTales World Showcase Adventure officially opened in December 2022, according to Extinct Disney, sending guests around the 11 country pavilions surrounding the EPCOT lagoon to seek what Disney's attraction page calls the seven plunders of the world, featuring Scrooge McDuck, his nephews and friends. Unlike its predecessors, the DuckTales version operated through the Play Disney Parks app rather than physical Kimmunicator devices — a design choice that left it vulnerable once Disney shut that app down.

Other App-Based Games Face the Same Uncertainty

EPCOT's DuckTales game is not the only Disney experience caught in the app's retirement. WDWNT reports that Batuu Bounty Hunters will still be available to play with MagicBand+ and screens even though its app component will no longer work, and that MagicBand+ interactions will remain available more broadly. That suggests a path forward for DuckTales, though Disney has not confirmed one.

Chip and Co reports that Disney has not given a firm timeline for when the modified experience will reopen. The outlet lists potential avenues for the game's return, including integration with the My Disney Experience app, MagicBand+ features, or simplified interactive stations, though none of these has been confirmed as the final approach.

Part of a Broader EPCOT Overhaul

The DuckTales pause comes as EPCOT works through a wave of changes across the park, which opened in 1982. Disney has reimagined Test Track with a focus on transportation history and innovation, given Frozen Ever After new animatronics, and debuted Soarin' Across America in May 2026 to celebrate the United States' 250th anniversary, according to Inside the Magic. Disney has also discussed plans to update Journey Into Imagination With Figment, including potentially bringing back the character Dreamfinder.

Spaceship Earth is also preparing for a major transformation following announcements at the 2026 D23 convention. According to Disney Parks Blog, the attraction is getting an update for the first time in nearly 20 years, with the team reimagining its focus around human connection. Whether that broader overhaul played any role in DuckTales World Showcase Adventure's current status has not been established by Disney.
