A car tore through the garage of a vacant home on the 200 block of East 107th Street Circle in Bloomington early Tuesday morning, igniting a fire that spread into the house. Four people were in the vehicle. No one was living inside the home at the time, and none of the car's occupants suffered serious injuries, though the driver did not walk away free.

According to fox9.com, the Bloomington Police Department said the crash happened around 4:30 a.m., and that officers described the driver as erratic before he lost control of the vehicle. A CBS News Minnesota report said a man was arrested after a car crashed into a Bloomington home. The crash occurred near Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

Four people were riding in the car when it slammed into the home, including a 52-year-old Minneapolis man who was behind the wheel, per the Fox 9 report. Police arrested him on the spot, and he's being held on probable-cause charges of second-degree DUI, violating a domestic-abuse no-contact order, and hit-and-run, the same report notes.

Fire Spreads Through the Empty House

Because the home was unoccupied, no one was inside when the car punched through the garage, and the resulting fire spread into the structure.

One earlier Bloomington home crash occurred in February 2021, when a car hit the garage of a home on Penn Avenue shortly after midnight, knocking down a wall and the garage door.

Bloomington has seen other car-into-house incidents that appear unrelated to this one. A separate CBS Minnesota report from June 2022 described three people injured after a car crashed into a Bloomington house, with the vehicle left partly lodged inside, though that earlier case is a distinct incident from Tuesday's fire.
