A 30-year-old Euclid man is facing a stack of felony charges after he allegedly beat one Scioto County jail officer and choked a second one unconscious during a chaotic confrontation late last month. Dimitrious Anglen was charged with aggravated robbery, two counts of felonious assault and strangulation following the Sept. 26 attack inside the jail.
According to The Highland County Press, Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman announced that two correctional officers working at the jail were allegedly assaulted by an inmate. The violence began at approximately 6:56 p.m. that Saturday, when a correctional officer was conducting rounds and was allegedly attacked by Anglen, who struck him multiple times in the face, according to wsaz.com.
Officer Searched and Robbed Mid-Assault
Investigators said Anglen did not stop at striking the officer — he allegedly searched the man's pockets and took items from him without permission, according to the same account. A second correctional officer then responded to help his colleague, and the station's report indicates Anglen turned on him as well, striking him and placing a forearm across his throat.
That second officer reportedly lost consciousness as a result, per the Scioto County Daily News, which reported Anglen was “placing his forearm across the officer’s throat until he lost consciousness.” Both officers were taken to Southern Ohio Medical Center for treatment, and one was later transferred to Grant Medical Center for additional care, the outlet noted.
Charges Carry Serious Weight Under Ohio Law
Anglen was charged with one first-degree felony count of aggravated robbery, two second-degree felony counts of felonious assault and one second-degree felony count of strangulation, wsaz.com reported. Under the Ohio Revised Code, aggravated robbery is classified as a first-degree felony, while felonious assault is generally treated as a second-degree felony under a separate section of the code.
Anglen was being held without bond, and he was scheduled to appear in Portsmouth Municipal Court the following Monday, Sept. 28, according to the same report. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges could eventually be presented to a Scioto County grand jury, the Daily News reported.
Not His First Alleged Jailhouse Assault
This is not the first time Anglen has faced assault-related charges tied to time behind bars. Earlier this year, a Scioto County grand jury indicted him over an incident alleged to have happened on Dec. 9, 2025, while he was incarcerated, per the Daily News. That earlier indictment includes a fifth-degree felony count of harassment with a bodily substance, a third-degree felony assault charge and a misdemeanor assault charge, the outlet reported.
Anyone with information on the Sept. 26 incident is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Jodi Conkel at 740-351-1091, per The Highland County Press. The charges against Anglen remain allegations at this stage, and the case has not been resolved in court.
