A former star of Real Housewives of Potomac is facing a felony charge in Atlanta after prosecutors accused her of hauling furniture and a flat-screen TV out of a rented condo in the middle of the night. Mia Thornton was arrested at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport in November, and the Fulton County District Attorney has since filed a theft by taking charge against her tied to the alleged move-out.
According to TMZ, Thornton and her boyfriend, artist Jared McGriff, are accused of stealing furniture and a television valued at somewhere between $5,000 and $25,000 while moving out of a furnished Atlanta condo. Property management firm Encore Management told police the pair vacated the Marietta Street unit on October 28, 2025, without notice, leaving the condo stripped of furnished items, including a wall-mounted flat-screen TV, according to CBS News. The property manager filed a police report on November 6, 2025, after discovering the unit emptied, the station reported.
Airport Arrest Followed Active Warrant
Police records confirm Thornton was arrested on November 19, 2025, at the airport after Customs and Border Protection officers flagged Atlanta police to an active City of Atlanta larceny warrant, per the same CBS News account. Body camera footage from that arrest captured Thornton acknowledging to officers that she already knew a warrant had been issued against her, and the footage showed her weeping as officers escorted her away from Customs and Border Protection, the station reported.
Following her arrest, Thornton waived her first court appearance in Fulton County and was released after a judge set bond at $2,500, according to FOX 5 Atlanta. She had been booked into Fulton County Jail before posting that bond.
Eviction Lawsuit Predated the Move-Out
The criminal case follows a civil dispute over the same condo. On September 11, 2025, two months before her arrest, Encore Management filed an eviction lawsuit against Thornton and McGriff, alleging they had failed to pay $5,100 in rent for the 2,011-square-foot luxury unit and owed $6,085 for each additional month, according to Us Weekly. Thornton had faced a separate eviction lawsuit in North Carolina in March 2024 over $3,419 in back rent, per the outlet.
McGriff, who performs as “Inc” or “Incognito,” became Thornton's boyfriend after her separation from her former husband, Gordon Thornton, according to the Los Angeles Times. Thornton filed for divorce from Gordon Thornton after an 11-year marriage, the paper reported. She had relocated her family to Atlanta after announcing her departure from Real Housewives of Potomac in April 2024, following four seasons on the Bravo series, TMZ noted.
Georgia's Felony Theft Threshold
Under Georgia Code § 16-8-12, theft by taking property valued between $5,000 and $25,000 is a felony carrying a potential prison sentence of one to 10 years, though a judge retains statutory discretion to sentence the offense as a misdemeanor, according to Arca Law. That value bracket is central to the Fulton County case, since prosecutors must still prove both the worth of the items and intent before Thornton faces the higher end of that exposure. The charges remain allegations at this stage.
Fellow former Real Housewives of Potomac cast member Wendy Osefo and her husband, Eddie Osefo, were arrested in October 2025 on felony insurance fraud charges in Maryland, the Los Angeles Times reported, noting the Osefos were indicted over an allegedly false $450,000 burglary report. The cases involved former castmates from the same show.
Days after her release from jail, Thornton marked her 41st birthday with Instagram posts on November 25, 2025, in which she said she chose “alignment, elevation, and elegance” and pledged to “rebuild,” adding that “challenges don't define me,” according to TMZ. The posts featured glamorous birthday photos acknowledging what the outlet described as a turbulent week following her arrest.
