A Corridor With a History of Fire Risk
This is not the first fire near the Gird Road corridor in recent years. That fire also marked the first real-world deployment of the region's Rapid Aerial Water Supply tank, known as the Heli-Hydrant, which was commissioned after the 2017 Lilac Fire and lets firefighting helicopters scoop up to 5,000 gallons of water in under two minutes, according to the Rainbow Municipal Water District. CBS 8 San Diego reported on a Garden Fire that occurred on the preceding Friday and Saturday in August 2024.
