One person is dead after a single-vehicle crash closed part of Campbell Station Road outside Farragut Primary School in the predawn hours Saturday. The Knox County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to the scene around 3:03 a.m., finding a wrecked vehicle with only one occupant, who did not survive.
Investigators confirmed that only one person was inside the vehicle at the time of the crash and that the individual died from their injuries, according to WVLT. As of Saturday, authorities had not released the victim's identity, pending notification of family. The Knox County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash, which killed one person near the primary school, according to WBIR, which reported that deputies arrived on Campbell Station Road near Farragut Primary School around 3:03 a.m. Saturday.
Road Closure and Ongoing Response
While crews worked the scene, the sheriff's office asked the public to avoid the 500 block of Campbell Station Road, which was closed during the response, per WATE. The station also reported that the sheriff's office's Tango Unit remained at the scene and that the investigation was ongoing. The sheriff's office said it would provide updates as more information becomes available, according to WBIR.
No further details about what caused the crash have been released, and the sheriff's office has not indicated when the road reopened to traffic.
A Rising Toll on Tennessee Roads
The crash adds to a grim count of fatal wrecks across the state this year. As of Saturday, Tennessee had recorded 740 fatal crashes in 2026, including 46 in Knox County, the same report from WATE noted. That is down from the same point in 2025, when the state had tallied 836 fatal crashes by the end of October, 50 of which were in Knox County.
The year-over-year dip tracks with a broader statewide trend. Tennessee's Department of Safety and Homeland Security has reported that 2025 traffic fatalities statewide totaled 1,045, down from 1,194 in 2024 — a decline described as roughly 14 percent, according to a report from tn.gov. State crash data notes that such figures exclude parking-lot and private-property crashes and that recent-year totals remain preliminary and subject to change.
For now, Knox County investigators have not said what led to Saturday's crash near Farragut Primary School, and the identity of the person killed remains unreleased as family notification continues.
