A father is dead and his son was transported to the hospital with serious injuries after Cleveland police say the two were shot early Sunday on the 2600 block of West 25th Street. Officers responded around 1:10 a.m. to reports of two men being shot, and found both victims suffering from single gunshot wounds at the scene.
Both the father and son were rushed to the hospital, according to Cleveland 19 News, which reported the shooting. The father was pronounced dead at the hospital, while his son was transported with serious injuries. Cleveland police have not released the identities of either victim, and no suspect information has been made public.
The Cleveland police crime scene unit processed the area following the shooting, and the station's report notes the department's Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation. The 2600 block of West 25th Street sits in the Clark-Fulton and Tremont border area on Cleveland's Near West Side, within the jurisdiction of the Cleveland Division of Police Second District, which is headquartered at 3481 Fulton Road and covers Clark-Fulton, Tremont, and Ohio City, according to the Cleveland Community Police Commission.
A Corridor With a Troubled Recent History
The shooting happened close to MetroHealth Medical Center, the Level 1 adult trauma center that serves as the main destination for gunshot victims on Cleveland's West Side, according to the Center for Cleveland. That proximity has shaped emergency response patterns for shootings up and down the West 25th Street corridor for years.
This is not the first violent incident on this stretch of road in recent months. Late Monday night, August 24, a 50-year-old woman and a 10-year-old child were shot while sitting in a parked car on Cleveland’s West Side, as reported on Facebook by 19 News. Weeks before that, on August 6, Cleveland police arrested a 33-year-old man in connection with a non-random shooting near the Interstate 71 exit at West 25th Street and Fulton Road that injured a 33-year-old man and a 9-year-old girl, according to WKYC.
Citywide Homicide Numbers Hold Steady After Early Spike
Cleveland's violent crime trend in 2026 has been uneven. The city recorded 48 homicides in the first six months of the year, matching the 48 recorded over the same period in 2025, according to data compiled by the Major Cities Chiefs Association and reported by Axios. Aggravated assaults rose slightly in the first half of 2026.
City officials have pointed to targeted enforcement as a counterweight. In September, the City of Cleveland reported that its summer initiative, Operation SPF 216, led to the recovery of 466 firearms and 90 stolen vehicles, and contributed to a 22.8% reduction in homicides compared to 2024 baselines.
How to Report Information
The Cleveland Division of Police Homicide Unit is investigating the case, and residents can submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers of Cuyahoga County or contact police at the non-emergency line, (216) 621-1234. No suspect description or motive has been released in Sunday's shooting, and the identities of the father and son have not been made public.
As detectives continue processing the West 25th Street scene, the motive behind the attack and the question of whether any suspects have been identified remain unresolved.
