The circumstances surrounding a death at Fayetteville’s Quality Inn remained unclear Wednesday morning. Reports placed police activity at the hotel on the 100 block of East Lanier Avenue, but did not establish what prompted the response or how the person died.
A WSB-TV crew reported seeing multiple Fayetteville Police officers at the hotel early Wednesday and watching the medical examiner remove a body. The station said the cause of death was unclear and that police had taped off part of the property, where crime scene technicians were also investigating.
Reports Leave Key Questions Unanswered
WSB-TV said it had contacted the Fayetteville Police Department for more information, but its Wednesday morning report included no further details from police about what prompted the response or how the investigation began.
FOX 5 Atlanta also reported police activity at the Quality Inn overnight, saying the scene was observed shortly before 1 a.m. Wednesday near Fayetteville’s historic downtown square. The station said details about what brought officers to the hotel were not immediately available.
How Cause and Manner of Death Are Determined
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation Medical Examiners Office defines cause of death as the disease, injury or combination of disease and injury responsible for a death. A determination may remain pending while further information is gathered or testing such as toxicology or histology is completed; in many circumstances, a final decision on cause and manner can take several months. This general guidance does not establish the status of the Fayetteville case.
Investigation Remains Active
Neither outlet reported an identification of the person, a cause of death or information about suspects, weapons or evidence indicating foul play. The reports did not resolve the circumstances of the death. Hoodline will update this story as police release more information.
