Knoxville is starting Tuesday with mostly clear skies, pockets of fog and temperatures in the upper 50s, but the gray start will not last long. Sunshine is expected to take over by late morning, setting up another unusually warm October afternoon before a sharp weekend cooldown arrives.
Fog Clears For Another Warm Afternoon
The National Weather Service in Morristown expects areas of fog before 10 a.m. Drivers should slow down, use low-beam headlights and leave extra distance until the fog lifts.
Once the fog burns off, Tuesday should turn sunny with a high near 85 and light southwest winds. Wednesday and Thursday will stay sunny and just as warm, with highs near 86 and little chance of rain.
Friday Brings The Big Temperature Drop
Friday is forecast to be sunny or mostly sunny, with a high near 84, as a cold front approaches. A slight chance of showers is forecast after 2 a.m. Saturday; the front is expected to bring little, if any, precipitation. Conditions will be breezy before temperatures fall to around 47 Friday night.
Frost Risk Arrives Saturday Night
Saturday will be partly sunny with a high near 79. Showers and thunderstorms are likely Saturday night, with a low around 62. Sunday brings showers and possible thunderstorms, with a high near 77. Monday should be mostly sunny near 80.
The weather service is warning of widespread frost potential this weekend, with Saturday night looking like the biggest concern for frost-sensitive plants. Gardeners may want to bring tender plants indoors before the cold air settles in.
