
A deadly fight in a San Juan business-plaza parking lot has ended with four men behind bars, each facing a murder charge and bonds of at least $2 million, after investigators said 44-year-old Eric Garcia was stabbed multiple times during an early-morning altercation.
Garcia died following the stabbing, which happened on Oct. 3 in the parking lot of a business plaza on Veterans Boulevard, according to krgv.com. Investigators with Telemundo 40 reported that the stabbing stemmed from an altercation in the parking lot of the shopping plaza at 1618 N. Veterans Blvd. during the early-morning hours of that Saturday.
Four suspects were detained in connection with Garcia's death, per foxrgv.tv. Two of the men were located and detained in Hebbronville, while the other two were found later in Donna, krgv.com reported, and the San Juan Police Department received assistance from the U.S. Border Patrol, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office, the U.S. Marshals Service and the Texas Rangers in tracking them down.
Charges and Bonds for the Four Suspects
John Phuck Phan, Hector Jose Martinez Jr., Orlando Radaban Olaguer and Mario Alejandro Sanchez were arraigned on Oct. 5 and all four were charged with murder, the station's report states. Sanchez also faced an added charge of tampering with evidence.
Phan, Martinez and Olaguer each received a $2 million bond, while Sanchez's bond was set at $2.1 million, according to the same account. A separate figure reported by MyRGV.com put Martinez's bond at $2.04 million, differing slightly from the $2 million bond cited for him elsewhere.
Case Remains Open Despite Arrests
Authorities said they are not seeking additional suspects, although the case remains under investigation, Telemundo 40 reported. No further details about a motive or the specific roles each man played in the altercation have been confirmed through the sourcing reviewed for this report.
