Dead Media Video Rentals, a free haunted attraction at 707 NE Fremont Street in Northeast Portland, is scheduled to run through Nov. 8. The published schedule includes Monday and Tuesday hours and 10 a.m. starts on Oct. 29, 30 and 31. The outlet also describes the venue as ADA-compliant; the attraction is spooky and family-friendly.

The attraction uses a video-rental-store setting and includes 26 movie monsters drawn in Mike Bennett’s style, according to KPTV. The event listing on ma.to describes the indoor display as an alphabet of hand-painted monsters. Bennett’s studio says the attraction was designed for children of all ages, as noted on its location page.

A video-store theme with local roots

Portland’s Movie Madness offers a real-world contrast to Dead Media’s temporary store setting. According to Film Forever Northwest, Movie Madness is an independent video store with one of the largest physical-media collections in the United States.

Local engineer and software developer Lorenzo Moon helped develop technical effects for the space, KGW reports. KPTV says donations are accepted, and KGW reports that musical improv group Easy Back Coven performs Saturdays from 7 to 9 p.m.

Bennett Studios has announced a Dead Media Holiday Edition opening Nov. 13 on its website.
